Σκοπός του μαθήματος είναι να βοηθήσει τους φοιτητές να αναγνωρίσουν και να ανταποκριθούν στις στρατηγικές προκλήσεις που αντιμετωπίζουν σήμερα οι οργανισμοί του ιδιωτικού και δημόσιου τομέα.
Το μάθημα εστιάζει στη θεωρία και, κυρίως, στην πρακτική εφαρμογή της διαδικασίας της στρατηγικής διοίκησης των οργανισμών. Αναπτύσσει μεθόδους, τεχνικές και εργαλεία για τη στρατηγική ανάλυση του εξωτερικού αλλά και εσωτερικού τους περιβάλλοντος. Διερευνά στρατηγικά προβλήματα και προσεγγίσεις και εξετάζει πώς ένας οργανισμός μπορεί να αναπτύξει τους κατάλληλους στρατηγικούς πόρους για να τοποθετηθεί καλύτερα στο εξωτερικό περιβάλλον (αγορά ή κλάδο) όπου δραστηριοποιείται, ή πρόκειται να δραστηριοποιηθεί, αποκτώντας μακροχρόνιο ανταγωνιστικό πλεονέκτημα.
